Syga Thomas

As Founder and Chairman of the Thomas Foundation, Syga Thomas is bringing to life his vision of equipping individuals to become agents of transformative change.

Most recently, Syga served as President and CEO of Maedwell Companies, a leading real estate development company based in Washington, DC. During his tenure, Thomas also founded Maedwell Residential Services, Inc. and District Maids.

Syga Thomas began his career as a Diplomat for the U.S. State Department. While serving in Niger, he was the Ambassador’s principal advisor on political issues and the mission’s lead advocate for human rights and democracy. He has also served as the Political/Military Officer at the US Embassy in Seoul Korea; engaging politicians, civil society members, business leaders and other stakeholders in some of the most important and challenging issues of our times – including nuclear energy, international migration, and bi-lateral trade.

Syga has also worked in Pakistan helping to advance US interest in the country. In his final overseas tour of duty, he worked in the Economic Section of the US Embassy Madrid, helping to steer the country out of one of the worst economic recessions in its history.

Syga Thomas holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Columbia University and a Master degree in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Among other honors, he was appointed a Delegate to the Academy of Achievement in 2007.
